Sulawesi province comprises the narrow southwestern peninsula of this orchid-shaped island, which is mainly mountainous. The seafaring Bugis dominant the southern tip, whereas the northern part of South Sulawesi is inhabited by the Torajas whose unique culture rivals that of the Balinese. Famed for their seafaring heritage and Pin6isi schooners for centuries, the Bugis possess to the present day one of the last sailing fleets in the world. The Bugis vessels have sailed as far as the Australian beach, leaving behind drawings of their ships on stone with words that have been integrated into the Aboriginal language of north Australia. Situated on the crossroads of well-traveled sea-lanes, its capital and chief trading port of Makassar (Ujung Pandang), till today the gateway to eastern Indonesia. Spanish and Portuguese galleons, followed by British and Dutch traders sailed these seas in search of the spice trade, escorted by their men of war to protect them against the daring raids of the Bugis and Makassar who attacked the intruders.

Makassar-Bugis-Toraja Cultures.

Day 01. Meeting service at Hassanuddin International Airport, Makassar.Then, directly transfer in and check in at Hotel for overnight in Makassar city, The capital of South Sulawesi Province.

Day 02. After breakfast, set out for a scenic drive to Tanjung Bira. On the way we will visit Bissappu waterfall in Bantaeng. Lunch en route. The Buginese and Makassarese are the most skillful boat builders and sailors in Indonesia. At Tana Beru you can see traditional Perahu boat construction. Dinner and overnight at simple accommodation.

Day 03. After breakfast, transfer to Sengkang, located in the center of the Former Buginese Kingdom. In Watampone we will visit the museum of Andi Mapasissi to see his collection from the former Bugis Royalties. Lunch en route. In the afternoon we will try to catch the beautiful views of the sunset over the Lake Tempe. We will cross the lake by motorized canoe and we will visit the fisherman families who do live on the floating villages. Overnight at guesthouse in Sengkang.
NOTE: Lake Tempe is Shallow lake by NO rain for a long Time, it will be dry and we can Not cross the lake.

Day 04. After breakfast, we will visit a traditional silk factory, where women handspin and weave silk cloth; then transfer to Tana Toraja via Palopo, a small Muslim harbor port. Lunch enroute. The road from Palopo to Toraja gives us spectacular views. In the afternoon arrival in Rantepao. Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 05. After breakfast, a full day exploring Toraja. First we will visit Lemo to see rows of Tau Tau statues and the hanging graves. Onwards to Suaya to discover the secret of the Baby Tree, Also visiting today Londa, to see an ancient grave where the deceased are entombed. At Kete Kesu one of the oldest Torajan villages we can see Tongkonan and old rice barns, also famous for its traditional colorful woodcarving. Lunch in Rantepao. Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 06. After breakfast we set out on a trip to Batutumonga enjoying superb views over Rantepao and surrounding valleys. Ideal for a walk along the rice fields to witness daily Torajan life. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Afternoon also visiting Pallawa, Sa'dan, known as the weaving center of Rantepao. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.

Day 07. After breakfast, transfer back to Makassar. A coffee-stop at Puncak Lakawan will be made to enjoy the spectacular view. Lunch will be served at a seafood restaurant in Pare-Pare. Afterwards transfer directly to Hotel in Makassar for dinner and overnight.

Day 8. After breakfast, we will make a half day city tour of Makassar, visiting the Old Dutch Fortress Rotterdam and Paotere Anchorage, the Buginese boat harbor. Onwards transfer directly to Hasanuddin Airport Makassar to catch your flight to your next destination.
